ON YOUR MARK, GET SET, GO

on your mark, get set, go!
A three-command start when racing: "on your mark" = get on your lane/spot; "get set" = get to starting position; "go" = take off.

Today's lesson is all about running the christian race and not getting disqualified before we get the prize. Let's make every effort to stay focused on Jesus.

1 Cor 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.
26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Gal 6:9, 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. 8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Matt 14:29 "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"

Keeping a watchful, focused eye on Jesus will keep us from getting distracted in our faith. May Jesus never say to us what he said to Peter, O you of little faith, why did you doubt.

Making the main thing the 'main thing'

How to Make the Main Thing the Main Thing
Read Philippians 3
· Learn How to Party - REJOICE
· Keep your Eyes Open for ‘religious people’
· Know Who You Are – You are not what you have or what you have done! You are a child of God.
· Don’t put confidence in the Flesh. That means yours too.
· Stay rooted in Christ Jesus. Let him be the reason for it all.
o And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Col 1:18
· You are not perfect yet. Arriving at church does make you perfect.
· Let Go of The Past. Keep being born again
o Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath Eph 4:26
o Forgiveness is a part of letting go of the past. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matt 6:12
· Be Assertive- Get it done
o Knowledge of Passive, Aggressive, & Assertive
§ Passive – lack of energy, unresponsive, not active; but acted upon.
§ Aggressive - having or showing determination and energetic pursuit of your ends, inclined to behave in an actively hostile fashion.
§ Assertive – You can define assertiveness as honoring your wants, need and values and seeking appropriate forms of their expression in reality. 1. To insist upon (rights, claims, etc.) 2. (May take a clause as object) to state to be true; declare categorically 3. to put (oneself) forward in an insistent manner

· Have Goals. (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, long term)
· Know the Prize. (Keep in front of you the things you desire)
· Do a mind check often (if you check your mind, you will check your mouth). Ask yourself 'How am I thinking?'
· Join with others like-minded people. (small bible study groups are great)
· Don’t lose sight on the ultimate prize. To be like Christ is the ultimate prize.

IT'S NOT IF, BUT WHEN

Let's stop saying if, but let's start declaring WHEN. God is going to do what He has promised.
Pss.37
[5] Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Is 46:11
I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.
Ecc 3:1
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Exod.13
[5] And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.
[11] And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,
Deut.6
[10] And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
Deut.7
[1] When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;
[2] And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:
Deut.12
[20] When the LORD thy God shall enlarge thy border, as he hath promised thee, and thou shalt say, I will eat flesh, because thy soul longeth to eat flesh; thou mayest eat flesh, whatsoever thy soul lusteth after.
[29] When the LORD thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their land;
Deut.14
[24] And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
Deut.19
[1] When the LORD thy God hath cut off the nations, whose land the LORD thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;
Deut.20
[13] And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
Deut.25
[19] Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
Pss.14
[7] Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
Pss.102
[16] When the LORD shall build up Zion, he shall appear in his glory.
Pss.126
[1] When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.
Isa.4
[4] When the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged the blood of Jerusalem from the midst thereof by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning.
Isa.10
[12] Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
Isa.24
[23] Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
Isa.52
[8] Thy watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing: for they shall see eye to eye, when the LORD shall bring again Zion.
It’s not if he heals me but when
It’s not if he delivers me but when
It’s not if he saves my loves ones but when
It’s not if he blessed me but when
It’s not if he prospers me but when
It’s not if I get out of debt but when
It’s not if he straighten it out but when
It’s not if I get my degree but when
Pss.27
[14] Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.
Isa.30
[18] And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.
Isa.40
[31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
